Reference Project: Custom Kiosk Solution for MSC – Secure, Modern & Efficient

Digitalization at the point of sale (PoS) and at events presents companies with a challenge: How do you present digital content securely without users being able to manipulate the system? For our client, MSC, Marlinz Digital Solutions answered exactly this question and developed a custom kiosk application for the Lenovo Tab M11.

The goal was clear: a plug-and-play solution that securely displays the current event schedule and important documents like the liability waiver, without "fiddling" during setup and with maximum operational reliability.

The Challenge: Security vs. Usability

Standard apps and browsers quickly reach their limits in kiosk operation. Users can leave the app, change settings, or access unwanted websites. MSC needed an app that turns the tablet into a dedicated info terminal – a "digital tank" that is still easy to operate.

Our Solution: MotoKiosk v1.0 (Enterprise Ready)

We chose a hybrid approach that optimally uses Android's security features without restricting flexibility for the admin.

The highlights of MotoKiosk:

• Professional Splash Screen: Forget white startup screens. When the app starts, the Marlinz logo appears immediately while content loads in the background. That creates a professional first impression.

• Launcher Mode (Home App): MotoKiosk registers itself as the tablet's default home app. If a user tries to leave the app (swiping, home button), the system immediately throws them back into the kiosk view.

• Fail-Safe Operation: If the internet connection briefly drops, the app doesn't show a blank page, but a friendly loading message and automatically tries to reload the content every 5 seconds.

• Secure Admin Menu: Through a hidden "secret gesture" (5-tap) and a password (1234), only the admin gets into the configuration menu. From here, you can quickly switch between event schedule and liability waiver, or – in an emergency – open the Android system settings directly.

• Future-Proof: The app is already prepared for Android 16 with Target SDK 36 and uses modern security architectures (OnBackPressedDispatcher) to completely intercept user navigation.

"No-Fiddling" Rollout

Special attention was paid to simple deployment. The app works on any standard tablet without deleting accounts or running complex terminal commands. Install, set as home app, done. That saves time and costs when rolling out to multiple devices.
